COUNCIL WAITING FOR SCHOOL AUDIT

After a two-hour closed session Thursday night with attorneys and the town's auditor, the Colonial Beach Town Council announced that it will take no new steps to inspect school finances until completion of an audit, which is expected next month.

Auditor Nancy Miller told the council last month that she had encountered "very significant issues" obtaining financial information from the school system. The council then asked the School Board to agree to 14 steps to improve the schools' bookkeeping and financial reporting. The board has not yet agreed to the demands. School officials have said they already have implemented many of them and have provided Miller with all of the information requested.
