H. Jauncey Sweet III
Harry Jauncey Sweet III, 79, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jauncey was born in Aurora, Ill., and graduated from high school in Chicago Heights, Ill. He was a member of the Class of 1954 at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He later earned a master's degree in geodetic science from Ohio State University. He was a career naval officer, serving in Vietnam, and on many types of ships before specializing in submarines. His final shipboard duty was as commanding officer of the USS Diodon, SS-349. Jauncey is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda LeHardy Sweet; four sons, Jauncey Sweet IV of Fredericksburg, Christopher and his wife, Veronique, of New York City, David and his wife, Gianna, of New York City and Schuyler and his wife, Tracy, of Fredericksburg. He is also survived by his two beloved grandchildren, Ryan and Sophie of Fredericksburg; his brother, James Richard Sweet of Tubac, Ariz.; his sister, LuVene Sweet Lee of Green Valley, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at The Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg. Burial will take place at a later date in the U.S. Naval Academy cemetery.
