Local teen needs online votes for recording contract Date published: 11/24/2009 By Edie Gross Local girl tries again in pop-star contest Online voters and a trio of celebrity judges will decide tomorrow whether a Spotsylvania County teenager has what it takes to be a pop star. Riverbend High School sophomore Kristen Roth is up against only three other girls in her efforts to win a professional recording deal, the grand prize in the "Are You A Star?" talent contest sponsored by miley world.com, Miley Cyrus' official fan Web site. Roth has entered videos of herself performing tunes by Cyrus, the Beatles and Michael Jackson to advance this far. Voting in the latest round of the contest--in which Roth performs a Taylor Swift song--begins at 9 p.m. on Wednesday at www.mileycyrus.com/be-a-star. Celebrity judges include country singer Martina McBride, Disney Channel actor and musician Mitchel Musso and Jon Mabe, author of Cyrus' hit "The Climb." --Edie Gross
