Don't blame Muslims for the act of one
I am deeply troubled by the Nov. 5 tragic shooting at Fort Hood. We should pause to honor the memory of those who were slain and pray for the wounded and the families of the deceased. However, I feel it is also very important that we not impose recrimination upon our brothers and sisters of the Islamic faith. Although it appears that a Muslim psychiatrist was the person responsible for this horrendous event, his actions do not reflect the actions or the beliefs of The Muslims I know in the Fredericksburg area are devout and peace-loving people. As a Christian, I know they worship the same God that I worship, and they also trace their religion back to Abraham. The Rev. Doug Hodges Fredericksburg The writer is interim pastor, United Church of Christ of Fredericksburg.
you seem very intent on missing the point. Can I call you "saved" or "Publius"? They seem to fit so well. The point is the extremists. Your refusal to comprehend looks trollish. Extremists are extreme. You noted the 3M Muslims in Germany today. Is Germany embroiled in daily car bombings, mass murders, coordinated attacks? What makes their Muslims sooo different from all the other Muslims you want to lump together?
Should we really go down to Central Park and string up any Muslims selling kabobs lest someday in the Philippines a Muslim terrorist group attacks others. If you think so, let's do it during the XMAS holidays in the spirit of Christian forgiveness and lovingkindness, as Jesus taught us. I'm sure He'd be very proud of our actions.
about freeing Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, etc., in the death camps. As for cauterizing, I saw little diminishment after WW2 of antisemitism; rather I saw annoyance at the Jewish "problem," partially solved when they got their own state. But that is irrelevant here. There are over a billion Muslims, it's a real religion, almost all of the billion want to get dinner, not American lives, they may hate Christians and Jews, but the reverse also has always been true. That's religion for U, getting us together.
If you read some works by Steve Ambrose, William Manchester, Willaim Shirer, Gordon Craig, George Baily, et al; you will not that there was a bloody, self-correcting activity called World War II, during which the infected part of Western "Civilization" was cauterized at great cost. No analog of self-policing in islam, yet. Just terror attacks from the Phillipines thru Thailand, India, Chechnya, London, NY, gosh those muslims sure are oppressed! They seem to be oppressed by the whole world.
gets turned into a denunciation of ALL Muslims, and the faith itself. When 6 million Jews were killed by the Nazis and their buddies (Romania, Austria, Holland, Italy, Poland, etc.,) and the Pope did not denounce the killings, was this not Christianity kicking out the moneylenders from the temple, and making damn sure they would NEVER come back? Are we to denounce Christianity for those who participated, all those Christians who gloated while taking Jews' homes, art, furniture and lives, then took communion
