A Stafford County man was charged early yesterday with involuntary manslaughter after his passenger died in a single-vehicle wreck, state police said.

Corey D. Rivera, 20, was also charged with driving under the influence, obstruction of justice and underage possession of alcohol, said State Police Sgt. F.L. Tyler. He is being held without bond.

Kennith Ray Rowe Jr., 19, of Stafford was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 3:56 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, Rivera's 2007 Ford Focus ran off the right side of the road heading east on State Route 610, one mile east of Rock Hill Church Road, Tyler said. The driver overcorrected and struck a tree on the passenger side after running off the road to the left.

The car overturned and landed on its roof, police said. It's unclear how fast the car was going.

Neither driver nor passenger was wearing a seat belt, Tyler said.
