Go to home page BLOCK OUT THE BLITZ In the teams' first meeting, Philadelphia's attacking defense was successful in staggering its pass rush. Some rushers would blitz off the snap, and others would wait a moment until Redskins linemen diverted their attention. Washington's line must communicate better in picking up blitzers, and the running backs must be smart and tough so QB Jason Campbell has time to throw downfield. RUN THE BALL EFFECTIVELY Excluding Rock Cartwright's 34-yard run against Dallas last week, he averaged only 2.8 yards per carry. The Redskins must run the ball more effectively. Doing so would help temper Philadelphia's blitz, and it would get the Redskins into manageable third downs in which their quick-pass approach will succeed. The Redskins are doomed if they fall behind early and abandon the run. PREVENT THE BIG PLAY Philadelphia's offense didn't dominate the Redskins in their first meeting. Washington surrendered 124 of the Eagles' 262 total yards on only two plays. Plus, the Eagles scored 13 points off of turnovers. Washington will try to force the Eagles to sustain long drives in order to score. That means rolling coverage toward DeSean Jackson and trading short completions for longer ones. --Rich Campbell |
