A Montross man has been arrested in connection with a Nov. 18 shooting that wounded another man and caused a nearby elementary school to lock its doors.
Westmoreland County Sheriff C.O. Balderson said Kewaine Lendell Jones, 19, was arrested Thursday morning at Jenkins Trailer Park at Neenah on felony charges of aggravated malicious wounding and using a firearm in the alleged wounding.
Tyrell Brown was shot shortly before noon Nov. 18 about three-tenths of a mile from Cople Elementary School on State Route 202 near Hague.
The school was locked down for about two hours as police searched nearby woods for a suspect. The school reopened about 2 p.m. in time for regular dismissal.
Brown was flown by helicopter to Fredericksburg and admitted to Mary Washington Hospital in critical condition. He has since been released from the hospital, Balderson said.
Jones is scheduled to be arraigned today in Westmoreland General District Court, Balderson said.
