Quantico Center gets new tenant
First two buildings at Quantico Corporate Center now full

A Virginia Beach-based government contractor has signed a lease on 14,000 square feet of office space at Quantico Corporate Center in North Stafford.

Kalman & Co., which was founded in 1987 by Barbara and Walter Kalman, provides business, analytical, training, acquisition and other support to the federal government. The firm has been associated with the Marine Corps since 1999.

Kalman already employs about 100 people in Stafford County. About 35 new and existing Kalman employees will work at Quantico Corporate Center.

Quantico Corporate Center is off U.S. 1 about 600 yards from the south gate of the Quantico Marine Corps Base. It's near the under-construction 719,000-square-foot facility that will add about 2,700 jobs to the Quantico base in 2011.

Defense contractors wanting to locate near the base have now completely filled the first two 140,000-square-foot buildings at the QCC, which is being developed by the Silver Cos. A third building of the same size is being planned.

Phillip Baxter, a Silver vice president who is handling leasing at the QCC along with David Newman, said banks are requiring that a building is 50-75 percent pre-leased before extending financing for the project.

Baxter said he and Newman are speaking with a Fortune 500 tenant that could take 35,000 square feet in the third building, and that Silver is getting close to having enough pre-leases to start construction.
