Students of the Month Date published: 12/4/2009
The following students have been selected as the Fredericksburg Optimist Club Students of the Month for November: Carolyn Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Drew Jensen, was selected at Fredericksburg Christian High School. She serves as president of the National Honor Society. She also served as a delegate to Girls State and attended two leadership conferences. She is an active participant in the school's theater program. Carolyn is an active member of the service club of the Presbyterian Home and has participated in a number of other service projects. She also participates in the homeless ministry at her church. Carolyn plans to continue her education at the college level and major in chemistry or chemical engineering. Alexis Johnson-Gresham, daughter of Tanya Johnson of Spotsylvania County, was selected at Chancellor High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. She also attends the Commonwealth Governor's School. Alexis is a three-time recipient of an academic letter and named the French student of the month She has been a member of the Stormfront Colorguard of the Lightening Regiment Marching Band for four years and has served as captain the past two years. Alexis plans to continue her education at the college level and major in French and international business. Courtney Kilgore, daughter of Dan and Mary (her hero) Rodriguez, was selected at Spotsylvania Career & Technical Center. She is in her second year of the automotive service technology program. She serves as president of District XI for SkillsUSA. Courtney is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. She is a James Farmer Scholar and received an academic excellence letter with a GPA above 4.0. She is active at her church as a member of Holy Teens for God. Courtney plans to attend Germanna Community College and then continue on toward a four-year degree. She plans to pursue a career in automotive technology or teaching.
