The following students have been selected as the Fredericksburg Optimist Club Students of the Month for November:

Carolyn Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Drew Jensen, was selected at Fredericksburg Christian High School. She serves as president of the National Honor Society. She also served as a delegate to Girls State and attended two leadership conferences. She is an active participant in the school's theater program. Carolyn is an active member of the service club of the Presbyterian Home and has participated in a number of other service projects. She also participates in the homeless ministry at her church. Carolyn plans to continue her education at the college level and major in chemistry or chemical engineering.

Alexis Johnson-Gresham, daughter of Tanya Johnson of Spotsylvania County, was selected at Chancellor High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. She also attends the Commonwealth Governor's School. Alexis is a three-time recipient of an academic letter and named the French student of the month She has been a member of the Stormfront Colorguard of the Lightening Regiment Marching Band for four years and has served as captain the past two years. Alexis plans to continue her education at the college level and major in French and international business.

Courtney Kilgore, daughter of Dan and Mary (her hero) Rodriguez, was selected at Spotsylvania Career & Technical Center. She is in her second year of the automotive service technology program. She serves as president of District XI for SkillsUSA. Courtney is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. She is a James Farmer Scholar and received an academic excellence letter with a GPA above 4.0. She is active at her church as a member of Holy Teens for God. Courtney plans to attend Germanna Community College and then continue on toward a four-year degree. She plans to pursue a career in automotive technology or teaching.

Nhu Nguyen, daughter of Phung Cao of Spotsylvania County, was selected at Courtland High School. She serves as treasurer of the National Honor Society, president of the Key Club and vice president of the Environmental Club. She also is a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and the school's Peer Mediation Team. Nhu has received several honors including an academic letter all four years, is a member of the 4.0 club, received a perfect SOL score in U.S. History and was selected to attend the summer residential Commonwealth Governor's School for the mentorship program. She is very active in the community where she organized a Red Cross blood drive at school, participated in several fund raising walks, participated in the Rappahannock River clean-up project, is an elementary school tutor and helps collect food for the Fredericksburg Food Bank. Nhu plans to continue her education at the college level and major in global affairs and/or international relations.

David Smith, son of Jamie Smith of Beaverdam, was selected at Spotsylvania High School. He serves as senior class president. He is a member of the Latin Club, French Club and Future Farmers of America. D.J. is an executive officer of the JROTC program and received the Military Officer Association Award. He attended Boys State and also is a lead mentor in his school's program. D.J. is very active in sports as a member of the cross country and tennis teams. He also is active in the marching band. He is active in the community and serves as president of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution. D.J. plans to continue his education at the college level and major in history. He also plans a career in the U.S. Army.

Jordan Sutton, son of Craig and Robin Sutton of Spotsylvania County, was selected at Riverbend High School. He is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has received two academic letters and also is master certified in Auto-Cad. Jordan serves as captain of the football team and was named to second team All-District as a center. Jordan plans to continue his education at the college level and major in psychology or sports medicine.

Christopher Ullrich, son of Thomas and Victoria Ullrich of Spotsylvania County, was selected at Massaponax High School. He serves as president of the National Honor Society, senior class treasurer and a Student Council Association representative. He is a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, Panther Pals and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership team. He also was a 2009 Virginia Boys State delegate. Christopher is active in the school's music department as a member of the chorus and a participant in the winter musical. He also is a field hockey manager. He has received several honors including academic letters, named an AP Scholar and was an All-District Chorus member. He is active in the community as a volunteer at Mary Washington Hospital and has over 300 hours of community service. Christopher plans to continue his education at the college level and major in business management.
