FROM STAFF REPORTS

Two area teams won American Youth Football age-group national championships yesterday in Orlando, Fla.

The Stafford Saints routed the Spirit of Faith Warriors 52-14 to claim the National Division I AFC Cadet title. And the Fredericksburg Bears claimed the Division I Junior Peewee crown with a 27-0 shutout of the Oak Grove Warriors.

Earlier in the week, the Stafford Giants lost a Mighty Mites playoff game to Upper Marlboro, Md., 18-12, and the Stafford Raiders fell 6-0 to the Leyden Bears in a Junior Peewee Division II contest.

The local teams earned their way to Orlando by winning state and regional tournaments earlier in the year. Two teams from Manassas also participated in the national championships.
