Bruce Brightwell
Bruce Brightwell, 65, of Fredericksburg died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at his home. He was born in Brantley, Ala., on July 21, 1944. Mr. Brightwell was a U.S. Marine who served for more than nine years. He was a Vietnam veteran who attained the rank of warrant officer. He worked for the Virginian-Pilot Ledger Star for 10 years in Norfolk; for the Miller Brewing Co. for 10 years; and then at the Department of Defense at Quantico. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Barbara Griffin Brightwell; two sons, Benjamin Bruce "Ben" Brightwell and Blake Thomas Brightwell, both of Fredericksburg; his daughter, Anna Elizabeth "Beth" Brightwell Pastore and her husband, Chuck, of Fredericksburg; five brothers, Horace Brightwell and his wife, Bonnie, of Mobile, Ala., Bobby Brightwell and his wife, Martha, of Highland Homes, Ala., Robert Brightwell and his wife, Angie, of Montgomery, Ala., Thurman "Ted" Brightwell and his wife, Sue, of Decatur, Ala., and Huey Brightwell and his wife, Mert, of Highland Homes; his sister, Betty Boatwright of Waycross, Ga.; his brothers-in-law, John Griffin and his wife, Maureen, of Spotsylvania County and Raymond Cote of Fredericksburg; his sisters-in-law, Deborah Cooley and her husband, Larry, of Fredericksburg, Martha Brightwell of Andalusia, Ala., and Donna Cote of Fredericksburg; special friend of the family, David Baker of Fredericksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Eva Perdue Brightwell; two brothers, James Edward Brightwell Sr. and James William Brightwell; and three sisters, Margaret, Lucille and Mary Louise Brightwell. Bruce was also a longtime friend of Bill W. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Interment will be held at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home.
