Orange sheriff's investigator dies from gunshot wounds; charges against estranged wife upgraded to first-degree murder Date published: 12/21/2009
BY CHELYEN DAVIS An Orange County sheriff's investigator who was shot earlier this month died yesterday, and his estranged wife was charged with murder. State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said Robert Vincent Canosa, 55, died around noon at the University of Virginia hospital of complications related to multiple gunshot wounds. His estranged wife, Brenda Lee Canosa, 49, of Rochelle in Madison County, was already being held without bond in the Central Virginia Regional Jail in the case. Deputies responded to a 911 call to a home in Unionville just after 6 a.m. Dec. 11, and found Robert Canosa suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Canosa was separated from his wife and had been staying in the house, which belonged to Orange County Chief Deputy Tim Murphy. Canosa was an investigator and had been with the Orange Sheriff's Office since 2007. He was employed with the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office from 2004 to 2007. He was off-duty at the time of the shooting. The Orange Sheriff's Office asked the Virginia State Police to take over the investigation because it involved one of the department's own members. Police arrested Brenda Canosa at her home the evening of the shooting, and charged her with attempted first-degree murder, one count of malicious wounding and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. She has now been charged with first-degree murder, Tyler said. Orange County Sheriff Mark Amos said the Canosas had been separated since March. Chelyen Davis: 540/368-5028
A family is mourning a loved one and you feel the need to speculate on his character without any basis. With no details of the case or personal knowledge the victim or the offender in this matter, you are willing to bet she was abused and he deserved to be murdered? Just a word of advice, avoid Vegas. Stay where there is also another good old Southern defefense that blames a rape on the victim. Ever think the family is reading your ignorant comments? How about using some good old Southern manners?
Plenty of women have killed their husbands/significant others or their children--for purely selfish reasons, such as life insurance policies, revenge, or other monetary reasons (like spending and not wanting to be found out). Remember Donna Blanton? They were separated, and he was living *away* from her. She came to his residence and shot him. It's ridiculous to put the blame on the victim here by saying it was justified because he abused her. He is the obvious victim here.
However, I still stand by my original statement......
I said "MOST WOMEN".
There are 2 sides to every story, and the truth is somewhere in between.
Obviously you have never heard of the old southern defense......They needed killin"
And yeah if he was abusing her, which I'm betting he did, then he got what he deserved.
Sorry to say that she thought killing him was worth going to jail over. And I do feel sorry for the family members that loved him.
I will say this, Taxpayer is way wrong on that comment. She was not abused, he was tired of her and decided to move on and she didn't like that. Wouldn't be surprised if they tried to add pre-meditated, she specifically asked for Dec. 11th off.
