John R. Mills

John Russell Mills, 65, of Fredericksburg died on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg.

Mr. Mills loved spending his free time with his family and friends and his Sunday breakfast group. He was a painter from the age of 17. He really loved his profession and some of his accomplishments, such as painting the Stafford Courthouse, the stadium for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and many others, including the White House. He was also very active in the Eagles and Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his sons, Michael Mills of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Russell Mills of Fredericksburg; his daughter, Brenda Martin of Locust Grove; his brothers, William Rowland of Ladysmith, Lewis Mills of Locust Grove, Lee Mills of Springfield, and Allen Miller and Gary Miller, both of Culpeper; his sisters, Debbie Taylor of Remington and Joan Figgins of Culpeper; and his grandchildren, Ryan Kessler, Aimee Mills, Matthew Mills, McKayla Martin, Emilee Mills and Haley Martin.

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 26, at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, with the Rev. Amos Healy officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
