Albert Zellars

Elder Albert Zellars, 81, of Fredericksburg passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at MicAnd Assisted Living in Spotsylvania County.

He was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Crozet, to the late John and Louise Zellars. He was a member of Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church, and pastored Penuel Seventh-day Adventist Church from 1975 to 1980.

He traveled around the area, preaching the gospel and setting up churches from North Carolina to Virginia. He was instrumental in preaching on the streets of Culpeper, then went on to build a church in Brandy Station. He was known as the "great preacher" and "the Bible walking and talking."

Elder Zellars is survived by his only daughter, Albertena Zellars-Harrison of Culpeper; one sister, Maxine Zellars of Spotsylvania; one brother, Cosby Zellars of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A viewing will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, with the funeral following at 1 p.m. at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 South West St., Culpeper. Pastor Glenford Baxter will officiate. Interment will follow at Penuel Seventh-day Adventist Church, 11282 Mount Zion Church Road, Brandy Station.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to A.L. Bennett & Son Funeral Home, Fredericksburg.
