Charlottesville man dies in Louisa crash

Weather was a factor in a fatal crash yesterday morning on Interstate 64 in Louisa County that killed a Charlottesville man, according to the Virginia State Police.

Jon M. Del Vitto, Jr., 49, died at the scene of the 6:10 a.m. crash, which occurred 1 miles west of the State Route 208 exit on I-64 west, police said.

Del Vitto was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang. The Mustang crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate. The truck driver had stopped to assist another motorist who had just crashed. Del Vitto was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Truck driver Jesse J. Owens, Jr., 30, of Hagerstown, Md., was inside the truck at the time of the crash, and was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation, but no charges are pending. Trooper F.B. Ross, Jr., responded to the scene.

not during school hours? (posted by bosmom , Jan. 1, 2010 7:47 am)    0 likes
If it didn't happen during school hours, then when? If it happened during after school activities, I still say that is "during school hours". Other people are there. The school is open. I'm concerned that I heard about this in the paper. My daughter goes to this school and she hadn't even heard about this.
