Bud Sheffer

Howard Wesley "Bud" Sheffer Jr., 84, of Stafford County passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Sheffer was born in Gettysburg, Pa., on Oct. 15, 1925, to Howard and Emma Sachs Sheffer. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946, and he was a 1953 graduate of Penn State University.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sheffer was predeceased by two sisters, Sara Jane Grissinger and Elizabeth Ann Sheffer.

Mr. Sheffer was a member of American Legion Post 290. He retired after 32 years at Glatfelter Pulp Wood Co., where he was a forester and director. He was also a foreman and district manager for the Maryland and Virginia district at Fredericksburg.

He also served on the board of directors for his company and sat on the Governor's Advisory Board.

Mr. Sheffer is survived by his wife, Doris Sheffer; three daughters, Linda Novacek and husband Forrest of Woodbridge, Carol Duncil and husband Bruce of Duluth, Ga., and Emma Seay and husband Michael of Spotsylvania County; and grandchildren Matthew and Michael Novacek, Kynna, Alyssa, Luke and Emily Duncil, and Amy Seay.

Private services were conducted at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, Fredericksburg Chapel.
