James M. Grigsby
James Mason Grigsby, 84, of Colonial Beach passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at his residence. Mason worked as a police officer for Colonial Beach and served on the Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad. For more than 50 years he built houses and did carpentry work. In recent years, Mason helped his wife sell vegetables on Route 205 just outside the Beach Gate. In his final years, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching everyone go by. Mason is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mildred M. Grigsby of Colonial Beach; six daughters, Ruth Norris, Shirley Hall, Frances Bowen Crawford and her husband, William, and Debbie Balderson and her husband, James, all of Colonial Beach, Bertha "Kitty" Luna and her husband, Hal, of Fredericksburg and Barbara Murphee and her husband, Michael, of King George County. Mason was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a very special puppy dog, Rosie. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. Ron Okrasinski officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow-Brooke Memorial Garden, King George. A visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.
