Expo provides perfect escape for non-ridingwinter months

January 15, 2010 12:35 am

HORSE WORLD Expo is another great way to dispel the January blahs. It will restore your enthusiasm, teach you new things and show you the latest gadgets in the horse world.

Scheduled Jan. 21-24 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, these four days offer mounted demonstrations, educational seminars, breed and stallion presentations, and vendors selling products and services for every discipline. All activities will be held in heated indoor facilities.

Presenters will come from several riding disciplines including Western, hunters, dressage, gaited and eventing. There are also clinicians who are not defined by their riding discipline but by their approach to handling and training.

Among the well-known names is Julie Goodnight from "The Horse Master" RFD TV show. She has a varied background in riding and training.

Others of note include: John Lyons, "The Most Trusted Horseman" with 29 years experience; Kenny Harlow, best known for restoring relationships between horse and rider; Tom Seay, known for taking riders on long trail rides over varied terrain with great success; Scott Hansen, a retired mounted policeman who focuses on self-defense for trail riders; Gary Lane, who works with gaited horses; Jan Snodgrass, who will demonstrate team touch; and Colleen Kelly, who demonstrates the biomechanics of the rider and how position and movement affects the horse.

Those who are best known for their involvement in a specific horse sport are: Nick Karazissis, a hunter rider, trainer and judge from the West Coast; Boyd Martin, a four-star eventer from Australia; Steuart Pittman Jr., a three day eventer from Maryland and owner of the well-known Thoroughbred stallion event horse Salute the Truth; and Australian Heath Ryan, a 2008 Olympian and current Grand Prix dressage champion.

Tickets are $10 a day. For a complete list of activities, call 301/916-0852 or e-mail
