What's with these failures by the U.S.?
On Dec. 31, The Free Lance-Star ran an AP story about how African Union troops in Somalia stopped a bomb-laden passenger from boarding a Daallo Airlines plane in Mogadishu ["Airport suspect held in Somali," Dec. 31]. This contrasts with the Nigerian man, already identified as a radicalized threat Daallo is not considered Northwest/Delta is one Also on Dec. 31, the TV was full of reports about how another branch of the U.S. government, the CIA, had permitted an Afghan suicide bomber to amble into one of its own recreational facilities and kill seven of its agents, wounding many more. One might reasonably infer from the above events that a medical patient in this country could expect to receive better health care from a system administered by the African Union, and applied by Congolese witch doctors, than the U.S. government system that is about to be foisted on us by Congress. Odd, is wideopenspace suggesting that strip searching grandmothers and Congressional Medal of Honor wearers in wheelchairs is perfectly acceptable? Just how do you define "good friend"? I have never heard of any grandmother blowing up a plane, nor have I ever heard of any CMH honoree doing anything to disgrace this great Country.
Using two examples of security failures as an excuse to not improve our country's health care system extremely disingenuous.
That bomber was supposedly a friend and ally which was why he wasn't checked very thoroughly. They had no hints that he was a double agent and had explosives all over his body. He even gave them a good line to get in, he had info on where a high value target was at. He had completely gained their trust. Riddle me this, would you check over a person who you considered a good friend that comes to your house like he's a criminal or would you simply let him in? You shouldn't play Monday morning QB here.
