Dr. Christopher Lillis was at President Obama's side during a White House ceremony yesterday Date published: 3/4/2010
BY JIM HALL Dr. Christopher Lillis stood with President Obama on the podium in the East Room of the White House yesterday. Lillis, a local internist, describes himself as an "enthusiastic supporter" of the president and anxious to see his health care reforms enacted. "It was a real honor to be so nearby while President Obama was laying out the path to passing this reform," Lillis said. Doctors for America, a grass-roots lobby organization that Lillis has been active in, recommended him to the White House staff. He received an invitation Monday night to attend the ceremony. Dressed in lab coat and stethoscope, Lillis was one of six doctors who stood with the president during his 20-minute speech. Obama told invited guests that it was time to end the health care debate and vote on the proposed reforms. Lillis said afterward that he is optimistic that the package will pass. "There's a clear path forward," he said. "The Senate has passed a bill. The House needs only to pass the Senate version. Through reconciliation they can pass a patch to help reconcile the differences." Lillis said he supports the major provisions of the bill, which include new state-run insurance markets, subsidies for the poor to help them buy coverage, requirements that people be insured and new taxes, fees and regulations. "I think you're going to see health insurance more secure and more available, and that's going to provide for healthier families," Lillis said. Lillis, 35, has worked at Chancellor Internal Medicine off State Route 3 in Spotsylvania County for about 1 years. He graduated from Georgetown University Medical Center and did his residency at Duke University School of Medicine. He and his wife, Amy, live in Fredericksburg. Jim Hall: 540/374-5433
... the ignorant lies that some commenters here have made about Pres. Obama/Democrats' reform of healthcare! Very soon many of us here will NOT be able to afford the premiums that insurance companies are charging! And what the Republicans offered wouldn't have made a difference at all! Obama said it correctly: Democrats want to help those who do not have insurance and Republicans do not! I wonder if Dr. Lillis is taking new patients?
that knows of his work as a fine doctor and is recommended by specialists as a doctor to go to to be your primary care physician. I am aware of his sins...standing by a president who is not a citizen and who supports terrorists..a doctor who'd like to see all poor Americans get health care coverage just as people do in EVERY industrialized country in the world. But despite these faults of Dr. Lillis, I'd go to him in a flash. A doctor with compassionate beliefs. What's wrong with him?
You seem to think all liberals are alike. Here, let me
counterpoint using the typical conservative response: "NO!"
other than defend what the president and congress want for us. It seems to me(using their words) that our "representative republic" is government by representatives who represent their own interest. not ours. If that is not what they mean, and if we elected them based on campaign promises whose sole purpose is to get them elected...never meaning to to any of it...then we are back to where I pointed out that they are self serving.
I know this is a long sentence and liberals' short attention spans falter...
party wouldn't have any of the folks you mentioned. Some folks can tell that there is a difference between "Republican" and "conservative", just like there's a difference between "Democrat" and "liberal". The Dixiecrats were by no means liberal, though they were Democrats at the time (of course, they eventually switched, and helped re-form the Republican party into where it is now).
