The Fredericksburg-area real estate market isn't exactly chugging along like it was a few years ago, but there is still plenty of action.

The charts below show which real estate firms--both commercial and residential--are doing the most property sales, leasing and management.

The charts are based on industry-standard data provided by area firms. The commercial data are from CoStar, and the residential data are from Terradatum.

Both data sets look at properties sold or represented in the city of Fredericksburg and Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties.

The commercial data include all types of properties--office, industrial, flex and retail. The market share numbers are based on what percentage of the area's total rentable building space is represented by each firm.

The residential data, which are broken down by individual office locations rather than the entire firm's transactions, are based on home sales in the Fredericksburg market between March 1, 2009, and Feb. 28, 2010. It's also possible to rank firms by units sold, but in this case we're using the total dollar sales amount. Firms get credit for a sale if they are either the listing agent or the buyer's agent.

More detailed data are at blogs.fredericksburg.com/businessbrowser.
