Can the signal pattern at the intersection of U.S. 301 and State Route 205 be changed? Date published: 3/15/2010
WITH EACH I was a little surprised, since a record low rate was previously set in 2008, when gas cost $4 Safety features in newer cars--side-impact air bags and electronic stability control--could play a role, as well as seat belt laws that are enforced as primary violations, meaning a driver can be pulled over just for not wearing a seat belt in 30 states and Washington, D.C. (It's still a secondary violation in Virginia.) All of this is little comfort to the loved ones of the 33,963 people that died in traffic crashes last year. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood said he was grateful for the decrease in deaths, but felt more work needs to be done. "I am also disturbed that we are still talking about nearly 34,000 Dear Kelly: On State Route 205 in King George, if westbound traffic reaches the intersection with U.S. 301 first, there is no green signal for eastbound traffic until a full cycle --Tim Armentrout, Spotsylvania The traffic signal does let eastbound and westbound traffic proceed before going back to U.S. 301, but you are pulling up to the stop bar at the wrong moment. I'm sorry. I imagine this is even more frustrating if it's happening before sunrise.
Drivers do.It is too easy to obtain and keep a drivers license. Our DWI laws appear tough but the execution is a joke. In Europe you get fined $20,000 and get 2 years in jail if you drive drunk, plus no license for at least 10 years. Speed limits are a problem? Really? Or dumb traffic lights and stop signs? Let's not dance around the truth. Our distracted, drunk, drugged always in a hurry impatient incompetent drivers are the problem.
How about those old fixed-cycle stoplights that run night and day, without sensing anything. How much time and gas have we wasted at them? The sad part is, that 35 years after the Arab oil embargo, they are still out there.
The Autobahn theory! Trained drivers and free flow of traffic. Add in traffic SAFETY enforcement instead of REVENUE enhancement. Oh, and much better secondary road designs, signs, etc. We have a long way to go, and no will to get there.
there are times when 25 mph is dangerous and there are
times when traffic should be allowed to move freely. You
can make a safer car, how about a better trained driver?
How about demanding people show the skills to handle
highway speeds and removing those who can't? But I guess
it is ok to craft laws around the lowest common
denominator and allow anyone who correctly guesses what
a stop sign looks like to drive.
So, just how many tickets were issued on I-95 and I-81 this past weekend by the Viorginia State Police?
