William L. Bauckman

William L. "Billy" Bauckman of Stafford County, the son of the late Samuel A. and Alice Wright Bauckman, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010, after a valiant battle with COPD.

Born and raised in Dumfries, Billy graduated from Occoquan High School in Woodbridge, where he was a talented athlete and excelled in football, basketball and baseball. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard a destroyer, the USS Cromwell 1014. After his stint in the Navy, he worked at Quantico helping build the FBI Academy.

Billy, or "Chief" as he was fondly known, retired from Prince William County Service Authority in Woodbridge. He was an avid Redskins fan and was fortunate to have attended three Super Bowls. He was a NASCAR fan and loved the Earnhardts, Dale and "Little E." He enjoyed many fishing excursions with his son, Bill, and the grandsons. He and his daughter, Deb, enjoyed horse racing at Charles Town and going to the Preakness, and vacationing in Nags Head with the whole family.

A dedicated family man, he was thrilled with the birth of each new child. He was delighted this past spring and summer with the arrival of three great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janie; and his children, Debbie Bauckman Pawloski (John), William "Bill" Bauckman (Karen), Sue Bauckman, and Rusty Conyers. He was the proud Pap-pap of Derek Bauckman, (Amber), Aaron Dent (Kelly), Jacob Bauckman (Becky), Allison Pawloski, Chris Conyers (Arica) and Kelli Newhouse (Joey).

He was the great-Pap-Pap to Emma Grace Dent, Charles "Charlie" William Bauckman, Delia Reese Bauckman, Bella Faith Dent, Colby, Chloe and Joshua Conyers, Brenden Conyers, Ryan Newhouse, and Kailyn and Hannah Zitzleberger. He is also survived by a brother, Vernon Bauckman; sisters, Jackie B. Payne (Pete) and Jean Lambert; sister-in-law Betty Bauckman; brother-in-law George Crabtree (Nancy); and many special nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Bauckman.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Covenant Funeral Service 1310 Courthouse Road, Stafford, with the Rev. Gail Deitz and the Rev. Teressa Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in Stafford Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home in Stafford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 9221 Forrest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23235, or Salem United Methodist Church, c/o Shelly Moncure, 841 Widewater Road, Stafford, Va. 22554.
