Edward Gordon Hilldrup Sr., 90, of Spotsylvania County died Thursday, April 22, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Hilldrup was born May 26, 1920, to Edward T. and Elizabeth Gordon Hilldrup. He was born in his home in Chancellor and never lived elsewhere.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anne Wood Hilldrup.
Mr. Hilldrup was a lifetime farmer, having taken over his father's dairy farm, and later raised registered Angus cattle. In the 1960s, he was the District PTA director. He was also a lifetime member of Zoan Baptist Church where he held many positions, including chairman of deacons.
He was a charter member of the following organizations: Chancellor Ruritan Club, Chancellor Volunteer Fire Department, Spotsylvania Rescue Squad and Spotsylvania Crime Solvers. He was a former board member of Fredericksburg Petroleum, Fredericksburg Southern States, and Spotsylvania Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his sons, E. Gordon "Ned" Hilldrup Jr. of Spotsylvania, and James W. Hilldrup and his wife, Susan, of Spotsylvania; and three grandchildren, James W. Hilldrup Jr. and his wife, Linda C. Hilldrup, Marianna A. Hilldrup and Gregory T. Hilldrup, all of Spotsylvania.
A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Interment will follow in Confederate Cemetery, located near historic Spotsylvania Court House.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, at the funeral home.
