Two Spotsylvania County men were killed in separate traffic wrecks within an hour in the county on Friday, state police said. The first wreck occurred at 2:55 p.m., at the intersection of Salem Station Boulevard and Leavells Road, said state police Sgt. Les Tyler. A 2005 Saturn Ion driven by 73-year-old Arthur Edwin Westveer Jr. was pulling out of a shopping center onto Leavells Road, Tyler said. He had a green light. A 2008 Honda Civic driven by 19-year-old Locust Grove resident Heather Marie Anderson hit Westveer's car in the driver's side. Trooper D.A. Eaves determined that Anderson ran a red light; she was charged with failure to obey a traffic light. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Anderson wasn't hurt, Tyler said. Westveer was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour after the wreck. There were no passengers. The other wreck occurred at 3:45 p.m. on Elys Ford Road about a half-mile north of Golden Oaks Drive, Tyler said. A 2006 Suzuki motorcycle driven by 23-year-old Michael James Kersey ran off the right side of the road and overturned. Kersey, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off the motorcycle and died at the scene, Tyler said. Trooper R.A. Aldrich investigated. Bill Freehling: 540/374-5405
I'm willing to bet that none of you who are sitting here crucifying Heather don't actually know her. We have been good friends for many years, and I know that she is an extremely kind and loving person who will feel terrible guilt for this every day for the rest of her life. I am also willing to bet everyone has at least once broken the law while driving, be it because you were in a hurry or your mind was simply elsewhere. Think of this before you cast your stones at Heather.
and receives a moving violation, points on her license and goes about her business.
That is intense! Poor girl, I hope she overcomes the guilt feelings she may have had for a few minutes.
What were the chances that the polymer plastic door of the Saturn Ion contributed to the death of Mr. Westveer Jr. The teen was driving a small car, a Honda civic. Was the teen speeding? Did a car cut the motorcyclist off? I had a woman driving a burgundy Nissan Altima(tag sxy-sxy) cut me off on my motorcycle ( she even looked at me) and almost ran into my cousin that was in front of me on his motorcyle.
The 19 yr. old needs to know that the 73 yr. old was a very healthy man, a husband , a father and a grandfather. He was a respected member of the community. He did not choice to be killed by someone that ran a red light. I would hope that she receives more than failure to obey traffic light. her mistake took an innocent life.
The 19 year old ran a red light, causing a man's death. She should live with that guilt for the rest of her life.
