No pass for Wittman
I was astonished at the recent editorial published defending Rob Wittman's record in Congress ["The Ball game: Dirt lot," June 21]. This is the first time I have ever heard a newspaper praise a member of Congress for "finding the bathroom." The defense that Rob Wittman did not serve long enough to be effective is unacceptable. Sorry, but there is no grace period for our elected officials; accountability begins on day one. I would be more inclined to allow this excuse to slide if I could put my finger on any subsequent accomplishments. Rep. Wittman has not introduced a single bill this year that would either create jobs for this district or give relief for Virginians who have invested years of labor only to find themselves unemployed. I'm thrilled he's found the bathroom, but what Virginians really need for him to find are the solutions to create jobs in his district. Helene Domi Stafford
I will agree with Ms, Domi that accountability of our elected officials begins on day one. I think Wittman has done a wonderful job. One thing is for sure, when he sees a duck he calls it a duck.
What I am tired of is people thinking it is the government's job to help them find work when they are out of a job. God gave you talents to use. If you loose your job it is you responsibility to sell those talents to prospective employers and get a new job. Sometimes getting work is work.
this writer doesnt know what she is talking about. you dont have to introduce a bill to protect and serve your constituents.
In my opinion Rob Whitman has always been very responsive and always done what is best for his constituents, best for Virginia, and best for the USA. Or does anyone have any examples to the contrary?
It's the Government's job to regulate interstate commerce,
not to create jobs. When you have enough "Power" on a
major committee you can "Create" jobs by having national
resources moved into your district. The problem with that is,
this is Virginia. How much more of the Nation's primary
infrastructure can we hold securely? FBI, DoD, NOAA, Dept
of Ag, and many other departments have major
installations here in Virginia. What communitiy do you
want to suffer for your gains?
then you not doing your job... forget about the rest of the constituants..
