Recently, there have been numerous articles on the benefits of exercise in all forms of media: how it aids in the prevention of many health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and others.

Then there are the articles about the burgeoning waistlines of so many Americans.

So tell me: Do we really need Segways to explore Fredericksburg? ["Downtown Segway tours get approval," July 14].

Come on, folks, leave those things parked, get some exercise, and you'll also find you can see so much more if you walk.

Equal Rights? (posted by Einstein , July 24, 2010 9:31 pm)    0 likes
I may be just a 65 year old retiree with no sense of humor who sits home all day and types comments on my computer and doesn't get incredibly sophisticated insight and erudite satire, but forcing everyone to go on the side walk is sounds just plain dangerous!

Yeah..equal rights for all drivers.. (posted by soldat65 , July 24, 2010 8:30 am)    0 likes
bicyles, motorcycles, scooters and cars should also be permitted on sidewalks. Better yet, force them all to use the sidewalk and then we can enjoy walking down the promenade...formerly known as streets. I like it!

so much for rules (posted by Freedrik , July 24, 2010 7:39 am)    0 likes
The segways are already being used on the sidewalks that were recognized as to congested. One last week cruised back and forth in front of the court building. Its a shame bicycles couldn't get the same blessing.

the dozen or so folks I have seen on Segways downtown looked rather fit and trim. On a recent trip to Target however . . .

Very well put. Americans are always looking for the easy way.
