Man jailed for pouring bleach-based cleaner into co-workers' drinks Date published: 7/28/2010
BY KEITH EPPS A Fredericksburg man picked up two serious felony charges Monday when he poured a bleach-based cleaner into his co-workers' drinks, police said. Spotsylvania sheriff's spokesman Lt. Col. Michael Timm said the incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. at Denny's Restaurant in the 5300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. Two employees reported that their drinks tasted like they had been tainted with bleach. The employees, a man and a woman, had left their coffee and soda at the waiter/waitress station and had taken sips at different times. They told the manager and mentioned another employee who they believed might have been responsible, Timm said. The manager called the Sheriff's Office, and the deputy talked with the suspect. The suspect first claimed that he must have accidentally gotten the cleaner into the drinks while he was cleaning the waiter/waitress station. He later admitted that he never cleans that area, Timm said. The substance put in the drinks, Eco San, is a bleach-based liquid sanitizer. Timm said police don't know why the victims' drinks were tampered with. He said there is no known history of bad blood between the suspect and the victims. Jermaine Johnson, 29, of Fredericksburg was charged with two counts of altering a drink with the intent to harm. The Class 3 felonies each carry maximum prison sentences of 20 years. Johnson was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. Keith Epps: 540/374-5404
Uh, WOW you really take editing seriously huh?, Just to let you know i am not attacking you but i would lke to inform you that to the average individual who picks up the newspaper to read it will not understand that like should not have been used, but on the otherhand this is something nice to know for a average joe or average sue, thanks for the lesson.
That is lucky it wasnt me or my family, because jail time would be the least of his worries. Spit, bleach, ANYTHING that doesnt belong in my food and you are getting the beating of a lifetime, and for those who say thats too harsh, just think burning intestines and AIDs, seems pretty fair to me!
I just found the story. She only go 6 months is jail, not 2 years.

Wasn't there a story a few years ago about a female cashier at the drive-thru at a Taco Bell in Stafford County who spit into a customer's drink because he supposedly gave her a hard time because they were out of the drink he wanted, and she got 2 years in prison? The customer was suspicious because she and co-workers were laughing when she handed him the drink and before taking a sip, he removed the lid and found it had been spit in, and called the Stafford Sheriffs Dept.
The word "like" is widely misused, but that shouldn't happen in a newspaper that goes into classrooms. This news story refers to "drinks that tasted like they had been tainted with bleach." An editor should have changed that to "tasted as if..."
"Like" is a prepostion and takes an object: "...tasted like a substance that had been tainted..."
I realize this is pedantic, but remember the classrooms.
