Protect us from big corporations!

For more than 20 years, I've owned and operated a real estate company in Spotsylvania County.

Because of the loss of parking caused by the widening of Bragg Road, it became necessary for me to construct a new real estate office building, which is currently under construction and is directly behind the existing building at 1302 Bragg Road.

We have been severely and negatively affected by major difficulties caused by the delays, mistakes, and misinformation provided by Dominion Virginia Power. And now we are enduring the same level of irresponsibility from Verizon.

These difficulties have caused major delays in the completion of the building. Definite action was not taken until I personally notified the Virginia State Corporation Commission and several senators and legislators. And then, magically, we see action after months of delay!

I feel very strongly that laws should be passed to protect the public and small businesses from large monopoly corporations.

It is shameful (and should be criminal) when huge utility corporations are not held accountable in their responsibility to provide service to their customers in a timely manner. It's wrong that major utility companies can choke small companies, builders, and citizens as they do.

I know there are many other individuals and small companies who have encountered similar problems with these large corporations. I strongly suggest that each one contact the State Corporation Commission and our local senators and legislators.

The SCC and these elected officials were very quick to respond, get involved, and provide assistance.

Maybe if enough complaints are received by those who oversee these corporations, much-needed laws will be enacted to protect the public.

lobo, you should read the entire (posted by ConcernedOne , July 30, 2010 8:14 am)
bill - you should know the government does nothing for nothing. That bill would negatively affect taxes on the small business owners, thus they will not hire new employees. Unfortunately, the news media reports only what they want you to hear.

The Republcans care about smaii business? (posted by Lobo , July 29, 2010 3:45 pm)
In your dreams. From today's NY Times: Quote" Senate Republicans on Thursday rejected a bill to aid small businesses with expanded loan programs and tax breaks, a procedural blockade that underscored how fiercely determined the party?s leaders are to deny Democrats any further legislative accomplishments before November?s midterm elections." ****98% of the current bunch of republicans in Congress don't care about ANYTHING except getting themselves reelected. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a FOOL

Thank you Teddy Roosevelt: (posted by ianrod , July 29, 2010 3:40 pm)
Wow... Let's blame everything wrong in the world on Obama. Verizon has been a crappy company to deal with for a long, long time. From the way they treat their employees to the way they deal with customers, it's no different. There is no sense of customer service with any of these utility corporations. Just ask Ken Lay and his cronies. Dealing with these firms are the same everywhere. I have 16 offices across the US and it's all the same. They are all awful. Break them all up. Wait, that's Socialistic...

that verizon area (posted by sixfeetunder , July 29, 2010 9:15 am)
is a former gte area. bell atlantic should have never purchased and merged with gte about ten years ago. sometimes you just cant fix what is broken and the former gte areas are a joke. they still run the one company like two different companies because of govt interference and regulation. also the bell side has learned very bad practices from the dark side.
