Protect us from big corporations!

Protect us from big corporations!

For more than 20 years, I've owned and operated a real estate company in Spotsylvania County.

Because of the loss of parking caused by the widening of Bragg Road, it became necessary for me to construct a new real estate office building, which is currently under construction and is directly behind the existing building at 1302 Bragg Road.

We have been severely and negatively affected by major difficulties caused by the delays, mistakes, and misinformation provided by Dominion Virginia Power. And now we are enduring the same level of irresponsibility from Verizon.

These difficulties have caused major delays in the completion of the building. Definite action was not taken until I personally notified the Virginia State Corporation Commission and several senators and legislators. And then, magically, we see action after months of delay!

I feel very strongly that laws should be passed to protect the public and small businesses from large monopoly corporations.

It is shameful (and should be criminal) when huge utility corporations are not held accountable in their responsibility to provide service to their customers in a timely manner. It's wrong that major utility companies can choke small companies, builders, and citizens as they do.

I know there are many other individuals and small companies who have encountered similar problems with these large corporations. I strongly suggest that each one contact the State Corporation Commission and our local senators and legislators.

The SCC and these elected officials were very quick to respond, get involved, and provide assistance.

Maybe if enough complaints are received by those who oversee these corporations, much-needed laws will be enacted to protect the public.
