Lewis D. Gooch

Lewis D. Gooch, 83, of Rhoadesville died peacefully at Culpeper Regional Hospital on Thursday, July 29, 2010.

Born Sept. 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Lewis N. Gooch and Ethel J. Gooch. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lewis was a member and trustee of Rhoadesville Baptist Church, Rhoadesville.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Lawrence Gooch, and two sisters, Frances Dunaway and Lillie G. Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie C. Gooch; two sons, Lewis D. "Danny" Gooch of Unionville and Robert L. Gooch and his wife, Brenda, of Rhoadesville; and three grandchildren, Troy Gooch of Herndon, Trevor Gooch and his wife, Amy, of Gordonsville and Kimberly G. Downin and her husband, Edgar, of Gordonsville.

Other survivors include three great-grandchildren, LeeAnne and Brianna Downin of Gordonsville and Memphis Gooch of Gordonsville; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Michael and Grace of Gordonsville; and sister Edith G. Fitzhugh of Gordonsville.

A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Rhoadesville Baptist Church, where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Nancy Stanton McDaniel will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rhoadesville Baptist Church, Community Missions Fund, 26042 Lafayette Drive, Rhoadesville, Va. 22542.
