National Scout Jamboree is held without any major issues Date published: 8/5/2010

Charter buses filled with Boy Scouts filed out of Fort A.P. Hill yesterday morning, dozens of them beginning the long journey home on U.S. 301 and State Route 2. The 2010 National Scout Jamboree was over. Unlike previous jamborees, this year's 10-day event at the Army post in Caroline County ended without any major incidents thanks to moderate weather, better planning and probably a little luck. "This year, weather-wise, we were very fortunate," said Scoutmaster Carl Darron of Stafford County. "Sometimes the dice rolls your way." Darron also attended the jamboree in 2005, when thousands of Scouts passed out from the heat. On the first day of that year's event, four adult leaders from Alaska were electrocuted when a pole for a dining tent they were erecting hit a power line. In 2001, lightning strikes injured two Boy Scouts at the jamboree. This year's jamboree, which coincided with the Boy Scouts of America's 100th anniversary, was different. "At the end of the day, it's about the Scouts having a wonderful experience, and I don't think there's a Scout that did not have that experience," said BSA spokeswoman Renee Fairrer. Of course, with tens of thousands of Boy Scouts and leaders in one place, issues did come up. "If you're going to have a city of 40,000 people, you're going to have things happen," Fairrer said. "It's nothing that you would not see happening in a regular city on any given day." About 125 jamboree participants were treated at local hospitals. Both Mary Washington Hospital and Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center were working with the jamboree to treat those who could not be cared for at the jamboree's hospital. Jeanne Burkett, spokeswoman for Spotsylvania Regional, said yesterday that about 60 participants were brought there with a variety of injuries and illnesses, most of which were minor. About one-fourth of the Scouts and leaders brought to the hospital were admitted. Burkett read from a list of ailments seen: "Head injury, hand injury, right flank pain, left knee injury, diarrhea, swollen ankle, abdominal pain, animal bite, rash, fever, appendicitis and fracture.
read any accounts of scouts or leaders giving two sticks about obama showing up so why are we still talking about it? they probably didnt really want him there anyway
If he'd showed up the security that it would have taken ( just like past presidents) would have been overwhelming, when bush showed up everyone, had to go through a security check...It wasn't 45, 000 plus scouts there then....for ten minutes..
Then your comment would be bashing The Pres. for trying to get a photo op, wasting taxpayers money, etc etc.....
Did you bash Nixon, Reagan, Carter for not showing up? Did you bash the asassinated Kennedy for getting shot and not showing up?
Shout out to Mr.'s White, Gordon, and Earnhardt, Jr. You three are quality American's.
