The Aug. 25 editorial ["Econo-woes"] astutely summarizes our current economic situation, but only way deep down does it refer to "malaise." That term vividly recalls the label for the Jimmy Carter years.
If I remember correctly, it took Ronald Reagan to bring us out of that malaise and restore America's confidence. Now we need another hero to bring us out of Obama's malaise. Congressional elections in November will be the first step, making Nancy Pelosi just a bad dream soon forgotten.
In an earlier time when similar philosophies afflicted his own country, Britain's Winston Churchill observed, "Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy." We simply must get past our own.
