BY TAFT COGHILL JR. Chancellor High School star quarterback Micah Cunningham is doubtful for tomorrow's season-opener at Orange because of sprained knee. Chargers head coach Bob Oliver said Cunningham met with his doctor yesterday. The doctor recommended Cunningham, the reigning Free Lance-Star Player of the Year, return next week at the earliest. Oliver said if Chancellor's offense wasn't so predicated on the quarterback's running ability, Cunningham may have had a better chance of playing tomorrow. "If he could just stand back in the shotgun and throw, he might be all right," Oliver said. "But he has to make cuts. He hasn't been able to do that." If Cunningham can't play, junior Alex Willingham will start. Oliver said Willingham has directed Chancellor's offense smoothly since Cunningham was injured on the third play from scrimmage in an exhibition against Lafayette. COLEMAN ON THE MOVE Louisa County resident Justin Coleman spent last basketball season playing for Huntington (W.Va.) Prep. Coleman will remain in Huntington. The hoops star was recently declared academically ineligible to play at Louisville, the school he signed a national letter of intent with this past spring. Coleman said yesterday that he's committed to Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He said he's unsure if he'll be academically eligible to play for the Thundering Herd this year. But if he doesn't play, he'll work on his grades at Marshall with hopes of seeing the court in 2011-12. Coleman played for Louisa his freshman season and was academically ineligible as a sophomore. He transferred to Henrico High for his junior season. He attempted to return to Louisa as a senior. But the Virginia High School League said he violated its transfer rule because he enrolled at a prep school in Texas before returning to Louisa. Coleman, a 6-foot-5 swing-man, then enrolled in Huntington Prep, where he averaged more than 20 points per game last season. WEBB WILL BE HONORED Chancellor soccer coach Mike Webb will be inducted into the Indiana University of Pennsylvania athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday. Webb was a standout soccer player for the Crimson Hawks before he graduated in 1978. He was the team MVP in 1976 and a two-time captain. He's the school's all-time leader in goals and assists. He tied the school record for goals in a game (four). He was a four-time all-conference performer and a regional All-American. Webb said his proudest moment came when he was named National Player of the Week after a game against Grove City College in October 1977. Still, he said his induction on Saturday will be bittersweet. "It's a really proud moment for me," Webb said. "I really enjoyed my time there. But it's a little disappointing that they no longer have a soccer team there." Webb's coaching career helped his induction, too. He's been Chancellor's coach since the school opened in 1989. He has won two state titles and seven regional championships.
