Cartels? Here?
Cartels? Here?
Date published: 9/3/2010 Cartels? Here? It's good that the Richmond County police have busted a grow site and uncovered yet another worry for Virginia and the country ["Pot haul totals $44 million," Aug. 17]. Mexican drug cartels? Why are they here? And what can be done about it? Let's enforce the laws we have already, let the immigration officials do their job, and we won't have a drug cartel problem, much less an immigration problem. The best idea I have is to legalize pot, end any drug cartel activity, and close our borders to all outsiders. That way we won't have an immigration problem. Roger Graham Stafford

Legalize it, regulate it, tax it...

Short of becoming a communist dictatorship we'll never be able to stop people from using drugs. The cartels are only here because they make SO MUCH MONEY from Americans. We must make it legal, regulate it and tax it. Let PM, RJR and other corporations get in the marijuana business and they'll annihilate the cartels. The govt would get more tax revenue, corp profits would go up, stockholders would benefit and users would get the product cheaper. Seems like everybody wins, except the criminals...

We don't have an 'immigration' problem. Immigration is just fine. What we have is an ILLEGAL immigration problem.

Because if they grow it here they don't have to worry about
sneaking it across the border and getting caught.
