Can't Spotsylvania cut us a break?

I couldn't believe it when I read in the high school announcements that the fee to attend athletic events has increased from $5 a person to $6 a person.

We have to pay for our kids to play, we have to pay to watch our kids play, we support concessions, and they want every family to pay to join the booster club!

Doesn't anyone realize that the county is out of money because the people are, too? Can't Spotsylvania County just cut us a break?

"Son, I hope you play well tonight. I can't afford to bring the family to see you play."

The Virginia Constitution sets the funding (posted by mustang2 , Sep. 4, 2010 11:18 am)
structure for schools across the Commonwealth. It does allow the SB to sit back and point fingers at the BOS for blame which is not a good set up. Still, we all know that a very large percentage of the county budget goes to schools so perhaps it makes little difference. The BOS sure doesn't like it when schools perform poorly after getting so much. I don't think $6 is a lot to pay to attend a football game nor is $80 too much for student parking. If they can afford a car, they can afford to pay for parking.

Cost Increase (posted by LastManStanding , Sep. 4, 2010 7:24 am)
It's not a Spotsylvania ting, but a District thing. The cost to attend games went from 5 to 6 dollars at all Battlefield district games, not just in Spotsylvania.

Did you think to ask the SB where the $$ goes? It may go to support or defray other school activities.

What ???? They don't do that already ??? Even back in the 70's our Football team MADE $$$ for my High School...EVERYONE PAID to get into the Games..We played at our City Stadium and filled all 15K seats most games..We supported all 0f the other High school sports except Basketball. They charged $$ for that too... I thought all High Schools charged admission to sporting events....SOOOOOO GET OVER IT !!!!
