It's T.I. Martin Day in Culpeper
Date published: 9/3/2010 It's T.I. Martin Day in Culpeper I would like to acknowledge the community service and efforts of one of Culpeper's finest citizens, T.I. Martin, as the Culpeper native celebrates his 90th birthday today. His roots in the community can be traced back to the original settlement by German immigrants at Germanna in 1714. It is that community that he has lovingly embraced throughout the years. T.I., as he is known, has given of himself to public service as a tireless volunteer for community organizations and efforts. The list of his civic duties is seemingly endless. He holds the distinction of being the co-chairman for both the town's bicentennial and 250th anniversaries in 1959 and 2009, respectively. In addition, T.I. was the chairman of the county's 250th anniversary in 1999. In 1985, he served on the citizens' committee tasked with developing Yowell Meadow Park. Today, the park is enjoyed by thousands of people year-round. T.I. continues to serve our community as a member of the board of Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was co-chairman of fundraising efforts for the Powell Wellness Center. And T.I. was honored as the fourth recipient of the Good Scout Award. The list of his civic accomplishments and accolades goes on. Please join us and take the time to wish T.I. a very happy birthday, and thank him for serving our community with honor, dignity, and spirit. Today in Culpeper is not just Friday--it is T.I. Martin Day. Calvin L. "Chip" Coleman Jr. Culpeper The writer is mayor of Culpeper.
