I-95 is a disaster waiting to happen

I have been reading about the traffic issues on Interstate 95, and I agree. The I-95 corridor is a major disaster waiting to happen.

I do not understand why we have HOV-3 when it should be HOV-2, as Maryland and West Virginia have.

Do we not want traffic to move? It is crazy to build a road but not allow anyone to use it or restrict its use.

I understand we are working to protect the environment; however, when traffic builds, the HOV land needs to be opened to all traffic to keep traffic moving, versus leaving travelers stranded in their cars for hours.

In my opinion, having hundreds of idling cars and trucks for long hours on I-95 is worse on our environment than any emissions coming from a power plant.

Let's get traffic moving again so our people will visit our town and state again.

Don't you know what happens to people that make sense..they disappear silently in the night (if USA government is involved)

The "Nixon Solution" (posted by PolishFalcon , Sep. 4, 2010 11:58 am)
This is another solution to the I-95 problem, but no one willk want to consider it. Do as Nixon did, move large parts of the Federal Government to the hinterlands. The people being moved will not be happy ay the time, but as time passes, they will rejoice over a better standard of living. It will reduce the NoVA population for awhile which willmake the politicans and devekopers unhappy. But it will give everyone an opportunity to rethink transportation in the NoVA area.

95 DC to Richmond (posted by soldat65 , Sep. 4, 2010 9:28 am)
must be HOV2 during rush hours to cut the problem in half.

make 2 days telework the default arrangement (posted by FalmouthFriend , Sep. 4, 2010 6:27 am)
Depending on the specifics of the federal/contract job in question it can be done better, just as well, worse, or not at all from home or a remote office location. If the government was forced to be more thoughtful about when it chooses to impose the external cost of binging each employee/contractor into DC, perhaps we could make better use of existing road capacity. Give each agency a maximum allotment of commutes in line with their mission and force them to ration them out.

Everyone here talking about expanding main lines (posted by Dana1 , Sep. 3, 2010 11:32 pm)
I hope you realize under HOT Lanes contract VA agrees NOT to build any new roads or lanes going in the direction as I-95. Because they would compete with the HOT Lanes. Another contract clause that needs re-writing.
