Melillo's goals lead North Stafford HIGH SCHOOLS

Sydney Melillo scored both goals for the visiting North Stafford field hockey team, as the visiting Wolverines topped Albemarle 2-1 in overtime for a Commonwealth District win last night.

Meghan O'Connor assisted on both goals.

Allison Coffey and Alexis Shenkle had strong overall games, and goalie Alex Jackson had three saves for North Stafford (3-1, 1-1).

FIELD HOCKEY

Spotsylvania 1, Orange 0

Kelsey Link took a pass from Brittany Leonard and scored the game's lone goal in the second half to give visiting Spotsylvania the win.

The Knights' defense played well in front of goalie Allie Kirsch--who made 17 saves--for the Knights (2-0).

Stafford 5, Brooke Point 0

Erin Gallivan scored three goals and Taylor Bailey contributed three assists and an unassisted goal as the Indians banked the Black-Hawks for the Commonwealth District victory.

Sarah French posted a goal, Alex Alford contributed an assist and goalie Brooke Scruggs had nine saves to record the shutout for the Indians (3-0, 2-0).

COLONIAL FORGE 2,RIVERBEND 1

Katie Kline had a goal as the Eagles earned the Commonwealth District victory over the Bears.

Maria Lane scored, Kathleen Namey contributed two assists and Sarah Ognibene had five saves in goal for Colonial Forge (4-0, 2-0).

MOUNTAIN VIEW 7,MASSAPONAX 0

The Wildcats got two goals from Bailee Hubert and a goal each from Kelsey Snyder, Emily Washington, Tyler Argento, Ivy Hardcastle and Emily Selz in earning the Commonwealth District victory.

Selz, Hardcastle. Hubert, Snyder, Nicole Burkhardt, and Bryce Barnes contributed assists for Mountain View (3-1, 2-0).

VOLLEYBALL

Massaponax 3, Mountain View 1

Massaponax got a 25-10, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15 Commonwealth District win at Mountain View (1-1, 0-1).

Brianne Strother had 15 kills and five aces, Kirsten Shivers eight kills and three aces, and Rachel Tighe nine kills and four aces for the Panthers (2-1, 1-0), who host Riverbend on Tuesday.

Brooke Point 3, Stafford 0

Rachel Jacobsen had 10 kills and six digs, and Amanda Almonte doled out 23 assists in visiting Brooke Point's 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 Commonwealth District win.

Valeria Giberti added 18 digs and six aces, and Sahvanna Myers and Megan Curran had six kills each for the Black-Hawks (2-1, 1-0).

Kristen Lee (six kills), Jessica Gatanis (five assists) and Lindsay LaFratta (nine digs) led the Indians (2-4, 0-1).

Colonial Forge 3, Riverbend 0

Brooke Kelly had 16 kills and three aces and Gabby Myers provided 25 assists and six blocks to led homestanding Colonial Forge to a 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 Commonwealth District win.

Sarah Warford had six kills, Jamie Santucci five kills and Kendra Stone seven blocks for the Eagles (1-0, 1-0), who take part in the Ukrops Volleyball Showcase today in Richmond.

Bryanna Smith had four kills and four digs, and Rachel Buchanan added four kills and three blocks for the Bears (0-2, 0-1).

Orange 3, Spotsylvania 1

Orange topped visiting Spotsylvania 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 25-11 in nondistrict action last night.

The Knights (0-4) were led by Crystal Iden with 20 digs, Katie Graham with 14 digs and six kills, Emily Hoge with seven kills and four blocks, and Bria Carter with three kills and two blocks.
