A young Spotsylvania woman was charged Tuesday with throwing a rock through another woman's car window as she drove away, police said.

The suspect also is accused of kicking out the window of a deputy's cruiser after she was arrested, Sheriff's Lt. Col. Michael Timm said.

Timm said Deputy Frank-lin Belcher went to the 10000 block of Antietam Court in response to a reported altercation.

The victim was crying when Belcher stopped her at the entrance to the subdivision.

The victim told Belcher that a woman she identified as her wife had thrown a rock through the rear passenger window of the vehicle she was driving as she left an argument about 7:30 p.m., Tuesday.

The victim said the suspect had gotten angry because she thought she was leaving with her money and identification.

Belcher and the victim went back to the residence and found the suspect picking up her belongings from the road.

The suspect told the deputy that the victim had thrown the clothes out of the trunk during the argument.

Timm said the suspect then acknowledged that she had thrown the rock, but argued that it was OK because the vehicle belongs to her.

Timm said it is not illegal for someone to damage their own vehicle, but he said it is illegal to throw something into any occupied vehicle.

The suspect became angry when the deputy told her she was under arrest, Timm said. She was placed in Belcher's cruiser following a brief struggle.

She began kicking the windows and kicked one out before she was further restrained.

Rashida Gibson, 19, was charged with throwing a missile at an occupied vehicle, assault and battery, disorderly conduct and destruction of property. The missile charge is a felony.

The deputy also obtained a protective order against Gibson, who was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

while some people still define marriage as between a man and a woman; i think marriage should be between people who l o v e each other. it is 2010. i swear people in fredericksburg are so closeminded. would you rather have 2 women together or a woman with a man thats getting abused daily ? ridiculous. i happen to know Rashida, and she really is a good person. every relationship has problems. these charges are blown up, hopefully justice will be served when she goes to court.

Missile charges??? Really??? (posted by dr428 , Sep. 4, 2010 7:51 pm)
That is the most ridiculous, trumped up charge I've heard recently! What do they call a water balloon...Attempt to maim? Gee[*#@!] The laws are getting way out of hand anymore.

Why does the "occupied vehicle" (posted by soldat65 , Sep. 4, 2010 1:13 pm)
law apply to this scenario. The occupant was stealing the missile (rock) thrower's car and she was just trying to prvent the theft of her property. If cops pursue a stolen car don't they attempt to stop the car using force? Are cops above the law? I don't think so. Something not kosher here.

What about ............. (posted by Ranko , Sep. 4, 2010 10:11 am)
the husband (aka other woman) did she have permission to take the vehicle or was it stolen? If so why was she not arrested also?

she is not her wife (posted by blitzburgh , Sep. 4, 2010 8:22 am)
That distinction only pertains to marraige between a man and a woman.
