The Graffiti House, a field hospital during the Civil War's Battle of Brandy Station in Culpeper County, is looking for volunteers.
Brandy Station was the largest cavalry battle of the Civil War.
The tiny farmhouse got its name from names and messages that Union and Confederate soldiers wrote on the walls using charcoal from the fires that kept them warm and cooked their meals.
The house was to have been demolished a few years ago, but a dedicated team of volunteers is restoring the building so its story can be shared with the public.
Volunteers are needed in several areas, including:
Tour guides and greeters
Housekeeping
Building and grounds maintenance
Bookkeeping, clerical and general office work
Special events and festivals.
The work as a volunteer is open to history buffs, retirees, college students, Scouts, church groups or anyone who has the time and interest.
The work involves flexible hours without a major time commitment. Volunteers can choose their days, work sporadically or be on call.
Free training is provided.
