'Rally' plans went awry but event was terrific

My husband, two friends, and I left northern Culpeper County at 7 a.m. to attend the Restoring Honor Rally, driving to the Vienna Metro station.

We made excellent time but hit our first snag because of roadwork on Interstate 66 near the Nutley Road exit, taking nearly an hour to get there. At the station, we joined one of three long lines of riders. It took almost 90 minutes to reach the ticket machines, which wouldn't take cash. Fortunately, our friends had brought a credit card and got our tickets.

We got off at Foggy Bottom and walked down 23rd Street to Constitution Avenue, arriving about noon. We joined the hundreds of thousands of participants from all over the country, listening to Glenn Beck's speech, cheering, and applauding.

One participant told me he had been up on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and could see the crowds on both sides of the Reflecting Pool, reaching all the way to the Washington Monument.

The rally ended shortly after 1 p.m., with Beck leading the crowd in "Amazing Grace."

Even though our original plans to attend the whole rally didn't work out, we were glad to show our support for Restoring Honor to our armed forces and other citizens who still adhere to our nation's founding principles of integrity, truth, and honor.

discredited Swiftboater liars?? Bad enough you'd trust an AWOLee over Kerry, but even a drunk, sissy cheerleader? What planet does this come from? You know zero about Kerry. As for was I in VietNam..NO. I was in Canada But I was in Korean conflict, and WE didn't bash fellow genuine heroes, especially if we were AWOL, drunk, and cheerleading with pom-poms while guys our age were being killed in 35 below zero weather. What rock should us Korean vets crawl under? Tell it to all of us.

Were you there leclare? Nice rhyme. (posted by AtackDuck , Sep. 10, 2010 11:30 am)    0 likes
I would take AWOLee over Kerry any day of the week. Kerry is a glory hound and a fraud. And yes, I know and talked with guys who were in his units, so I have more than a clue about his medals. Crawl back in your hole.

Plenty of guys were in Nam (posted by leclare , Sep. 10, 2010 11:00 am)    0 likes
who never saw difficult combat, firefights or Tet. But they were there. Why do you denigrate Kerry, Attackduck? You have't a clue about his medals. whether for scratches or deeper wounds. There YOU go, attacking Kerry and his record while sticking up for guys like the AWOLee who was a chorus boy for the cheerleading squad in college, while guys like Kerry (and Gore) were in Nam. You's prefer an AWOL guy, drunk, to cover your back,in Nam, over John Kerry? Beam me up..where's this guy's support for vets?

What do you think?
