Earl Mason Saunders

Earl Mason Saunders, 82, of Lake of the Woods, Locust Grove, passed away on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, in Fredericksburg.

Mason was born in Alexandria. He attended Saint Mary's School and later George Washington High School. His career included serving as an Alexandria police officer, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, and working for Service Distributing Co., where he retired in 1990.

After retirement, Mason and his wife moved to Lake of the Woods. His favorite hobbies included golfing and bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Corbin Saunders; a son, Kirk Edward Saunders; and his daughter, Kim Marie Carter. Survivors also include four grandchildren, Jason, Christine, Lynsey and Kevin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, with a memorial service to begin at 7:30 p.m.. Inurnment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
