One woman was killed and a firefighter was injured in a house fire early yesterday in Orange County.
The fire, at a home on Dolwood Drive near Indiantown Road in the Locust Grove area, was reported at about 7 a.m.
The firefighter, a professional staffer of Orange County Fire and Rescue, was injured attempting to rescue the residents, according to County Administrator Julie Jordan. He was transported to Culpeper Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
His name and the exact nature of his injuries were not released.
State police were awaiting confirmation from the state medical examiner before releasing the name of the woman who died.
An adult and two children were able to escape from the home unharmed, state police said. The origin and cause of the fire was under investigation, state police said.
Lake of the Woods Fire Chief Tim Bettendorf said his company was the first on the scene and was later joined by units from Mine Run, Orange, Chancellorsville and Spotsylvania fire departments.
