The Fredericksburg Hotspur, the Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association's first-year Premier Development League side, will host D.C. United's newly formed under-23 squad in a friendly at the University of Mary Washington this evening.

The action kicks off at 6 p.m. at UMW's Battleground Complex off Hanover Street in downtown Fredericksburg. Tickets for the game are $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

It will mark D.C. United all-time great Jaime Moreno's coaching debut. Moreno played 15 seasons in Major League Soccer--14 with United--before retiring last year as MLS's all-time leading scorer with 133 goals.

Moreno said he has been looking forward to the team's season-opener.

"Fredericksburg will be a good match-up for us. I'm excited to see how the first game goes," he said in a FASA press release. "We hope that we have a nice crowd, that way our kids have a feeling of playing in front of a few people."

Fredericksburg coach Carl Gray said it's also a big opportunity for the his players, most of whom still compete at the college level when they are not participating in the PDL.

"It's hard to get these guys' motivation any higher than it already is because they work hard every practice and every game," Gray said after Sunday's PDL game, a 1-0 loss to the Northern Virginia Royals. "The guys are really excited about it, obviously, and hopefully the fans come out and enjoy the game as well."
