A bicyclist was killed yesterday when he was struck by a vehicle on U.S. 1 in Caroline County.

According to Sgt. Thomas Molnar of the Virginia State Police, the bicyclist failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign while riding south on U.S. 1 near Cedon Road.

The cyclist was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup traveling in the right lane. The driver of the pickup was unable to avoid striking the bicycle, Molnar said.

The cyclist, Charles F. Roye, 59, of Cedon Road in Caroline was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene, Molnar said.

The driver of the pickup, John D. Frye, 57, of Woodford, was not injured in the crash. He is not facing any charges, Molnar said.
