Fredericksburg detectives and federal agents arrested a Spotsylvania County man yesterday in connection with a shooting in Mayfield.
The shooting occurred shortly before 1:45 a.m. last Saturday in the Mayfield section of the city, according to Fredericksburg Police Department spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe.
The victim, a 47-year-old Stafford County man, reported that he and his girlfriend were driving around Mayfield looking for a friend when he was flagged down by a man he didn't know, Bledsoe said.
The victim stopped and got out of his car to talk to the man. An argument ensued, and as the victim was running away he was shot in the back of the thigh, Bledsoe said.
The victim and his girlfriend then drove to the hospital, where he was treated and released, Bledsoe said.
Arrest warrants were obtained Tuesday for Dontae Reon Jackson, 25, of Spotsylvania, but police could not immediately find him.
Jackson was spotted early yesterday morning at the Wawa store at 2390 Plank Road in Fredericksburg, where he was taken into custody, police said.
Jackson is charged with malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and using a firearm during the commission of a felony.
He was being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
