Edna Garrigan

Edna May Curtis Garrigan, 90, died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at her home in Sumerduck, where she resided with her son for many years.

She is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A former longtime resident of Manassas Park, Edna May was born May 1, 1921, in Cleveland to the late Aubrey Scott Curtis and Augusta Low Curtis. She worked for Army Motion Pictures and Warner Brothers. She also served for 24 years as a substitute teacher for the Manassas Park City schools.

A faithful Christian, she was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Manassas, where she taught children's Sunday school for decades, and served in numerous ministries of the church, including ministry to the elderly in a local nursing home. She also attended New Covenant Fellowship in Manassas, and as a child attended Mount Holly Baptist Church in Sumerduck and ultimately faithfully attended Sumerduck Baptist Church with her son. She was known as a godly woman of rare selflessness and compassion. She devoted herself to prayer and to the care of others.

In addition to her parents, Edna May was preceded in death by her husband, John William Garrigan; son Glenn William Garrigan; and brothers Ray and Roger Curtis.

She is survived by six children, Bonnie Lee Scott and Victor Garrigan, both of Culpeper County, Edwin Garrigan of Orange County, Chris Ray Garrigan and his wife, Nancy, of Sumerduck, JGene Cuccherini and her husband, Danny, of Elkwood and Joy Booth and her husband, Jim, of Richmond; 25 grandchildren, Denita Cuccherini, James Viar, Kevin Garrigan, Karen Garrigan, Chuck Harlowe, Kerry Garrigan, Kristina Garrigan, Darren Garrigan, Shannon Harris, Sheela Hancock, Sharanda Garrigan, Sharissa Garrigan, Sharayla Garrigan, Angela Moberley, Danielle Cuccherini, Nicholas Cuccherini, Anthony Cuccherini, Vincent Cuccherini, Caitlin Cuccherini, Jewelia Cuccherini, Robert Cuccherini, Rosalee Cuccherini, Hilary Booth, Lindsey Booth and Lauren Booth; 20 great- grandchildren; and two brothers, Walter Curtis of Ruckersville and William Curtis of Fredericksburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home, with Dr. Jim Booth and the Rev. Bob Yarbrough officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Holly cemetery in Sumerduck.
