Alice Gray Newcomb, 90, of Fredericksburg passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at her residence.
Ms. Newcomb was a member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church. She was retired from Stafford County schools. She was very active in her church where she helped with homeless ministries and worked in the nursery. Ms. Newcomb had worked for the Red Cross in WWII, providing emergency shelter and care for children. She also was a published poet.
She was preceded in death by her son, David S. Newcomb, in June 2009. Survivors include her nieces, Margie S. Hurt and Virginia Hall; her nephews, William, Robert, Jim and Peter Simpson; and several cousins and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Fredericksburg Baptist Church.
